From a craft business to the creation of a leading industrial group in its sector

History of the organisation


1979
Pierre and Christiane Riou set up a small business in Pont-Audemer (Eure), whose activities involve painting, insulation, fitting of secondary glazing and double glazing. 

 

1983
VIP RIOU established in Beuzeville (Eure), a double-glazing manufacturing unit of 500 m² with a production line designed and installed by Pierre Riou.

Development of a roller press for assembling insulation glazing. 

 

1988
VIP RIOU becomes VIP (Vitrages Isolants de Pont-Audemer) and relocates to Boulleville (Eure) to a 1,000 m² facility which will subsequently expand. 

Small business management prize awarded to Pierre Riou by the chambers of commerce of Eure, Calvados and Seine-Maritime.

Presentation of the RIOU horizontal roller press at the international GLASSTEC exhibitions at Düsseldorf (Germany). Patents applied for. 

 

1989
Creation of VIC (Vitrages Isolants du Cotentin) at Saint-Lô (Manche), production unit for the transformation of glazing products in a 1,500 m² facility. 

 

1990
The European Patent Office at The Hague (Netherlands) awards Pierre Riou a method equipment patent. 

 

 

1993
Acquisition at Loudéac (Côtes-d’Armor) of a glazing products transformation unit. Creation of VIB (Vitrages Isolants de Bretagne). 

 

1999
Creation of the RIOU Glass company, a holding company essentially focussing on the administrative and commercial activities of its subsidiaries. 

 

 

2002
Expansion of VIP premises from 4,700 m² to 11,000 m², with the acquisition of an insulating glazing manufacturing line, of an automated glass cutting unit and of curved-glass hardening oven. This company manufactures insulation glazing, toughened, enamelled, screen-printed, curved glass, toughened curved glass, finished, sanded, and decorative and thermoformed glass. 

 

2005
Acquisition at Montady (Hérault) of a glazing products transformation unit. Creation of SLPV (Société Languedocienne des Produits Verriers). 

 

2006
Purchase of 2 factories from the British Pilkington Group:

  • Les Herbiers (Vendée), renamed VIV (Vitrages Isolants Vendéens), specialising in the manufacture of insulating glazing products.
  • Vendin-le-Vieil (Pas-de-Calais), renamed VIN (Vitrages Isolants du Nord). Manufacture of insulating glazing units and insulating glazing units for restoration.

 

2007
Creation of STV (Société de Transports Verriers) responsible for the transportation of RIOU Glass group products, but also available for any other transport and freight.

2008
Awarding of the insignia of Chevalier de l’Ordre National du Mérite to Pierre Riou by the minister of Defence. 

 

2009
Acquisition of the V2S (Vitrages de Sécurité du Sud) company at Narbonne (Aude), specialising in the manufacture of laminated glass design to protect persons and property, as well as coloured and decorative laminated glass.

Acquisition of Pilkington France, a company owning 4 establishments, retention of the workforce of 300 individuals:

  • Gaillefontaine (Seine-Maritime), re-named LVI (Le Vitrage Isolant).
  • Lanvollon (Côtes-d’Armor), re-named VICA (Vitrages Isolants des Côtes d’Armor).
  • Marmande (Lot-et-Garonne), re-named VERAQUI (Verres d’Aquitaine).
  • Parné-sur-Roc (Mayenne), re-named VIO (Vitrages Isolants de l’Ouest). 

 

2010
Acquisition of the SOREMIR (Société Réunionnaise de Miroiterie) organisation, the leading company not only in Réunion, but also throughout the Indian Ocean (Mauritius, Madagascar, Mayotte etc.) in its two chosen activities, glazing products and blinds. SOREMIR is an organisation made up of two units: SOREMIR at Saint-Denis (Réunion), & SOREMIR at Saint-Paul (Réunion).

 

2012
Acquisition from Saint-Gobain Glass France of 50% of the capital of Eurofloat, a company specialising in the production of flat glass and located at Salaise-sur-Sanne (Isère). Creation of the RFG (RIOU Flat Glass) company, specialising in the sales and distribution of heavy glazing products. 

Acquisition at Pouilly-en-Auxois (Côte-d’Or) of a glazing products transformation unit. Creation of the VICO (Vitrages Isolants de Côte d’Or) organisation. 

 

2013
Inauguration of the first assembly line for heating glazing units at VIP. 

Launch of RIOU Glass CREATIONS decorative glazing facility. 

 

2015
Pierre Riou receives the judges' award at the 25th 'Victoires des Autodidactes'. 

The Grand Prix for Innovation at the 'Foire de Paris' exhibition: CalorGlass heated glazing awarded the "judges prize". 

Acquisition at Cirey-sur-Vezouze (Meurthe-et-Moselle) of a glazing products transformation unit. Creation of the VIE (Vitrages Isolants de l'Est) organisation. 

 

2016
Launch of the installation assistance service APV (Assistance Pose Vitrages).

Complete reconstruction of the furnace and modernisation of the flat glass production line at Eurofloat (110 days work, 26 million Euro investment). 

 

2017
Acquisition of the AIV (Applications Industrielles du Verre) company at Fougères (Ille-et-Vilaine), from Japanese glass manufacturer AGC.

 

2018
Shares in the Eurovitrage company (Isere).

 

2019
VICO becomes Eurovitrage Dijon.
